We wanted to introduce our little pet that added to our bliss in the Barlow family around the first of July 2009. He didn't have a name for awhile, but then we came across the song Zorba The Greek, which is also a movie we found out later. We immediately decided that ZORBA is the perfect name for our little underwater dude. He is a beautiful Betta fish with more unusual colors than most Betta's. It took us a little time to figure out the best way to care for him, but by the look of his long fanning flowing fins he is much happier then he was when we started. Now my question is, Can fish hear? No really, maybe I should know this answer, but I don't.
I ask because little Zorba seems to respond when we call his name. John describes him as a little puppy in a fishes body. He comes over and "wags is tail" if you will and he kinda bobs his head up and down and gets all excited. We love it, it makes us feel good =D
So, I have to share his traumatic story though. It just happened the last time we cleaned his water. While we were moving him back into his home he jumped out of the little strainer and landed on the counter. Then as John was trying to rescue him he jumped off the counter onto the kitchen floor. Ooooh the head injury he must of had! He didn't try anything else after that-- he just laid there super still, poor little guy. He hasn't quite been his usual self since then and I'm a little paranoid and anxious about the next cleaning time. Good news though, none of his fins were injured, so he is good there. I must give all the credit to John for saving his life. He was so quick and gentle. I on the other hand, just jumped back and screamed JOHN! So, THANKS JOHN you are the BEST!
Poor little fishy, but you guys are such great people, I'm sure Zorba won't hold this incident against you.
